FAQ

Q: I experienced an error/hangup/malfunction using the plugins.

A: Please read the F.A.Q. and the Known Bugs list. If your error is not listed there, use this report error link.

Q: When I started the plugin it complained about missing files and shuted down.

A: Please make sure that you have copied the "data" folder, which comes along with the plugins into the sumatra-plugin directory.

Q: Can I use the plugins on other objects than just plants?

A: Yes.

Q: While the plugin is working, I get an error message:"There are already the maximum number of objects in the scene".

A: This is an error message by Layout itself. To prevent this, you should do the following (best before you run the plugin for the first time) to increase the maximum number of scene objects:

1. press "d", go to the "Default" tab and adjust "Maximum Objects".
2. restart Layout to apply changes.

Q: I tried using Sumatra Modeller or Sumatra Paint while having Layout running and a scene with lots of polygons loaded. When I do so, Sumatra Modeller or Paint runs awfully slow.

A: Known Issue on slow systems, try using the Sumatra Modeller and Paint while Layout is closed.

Q: I tried using Sumatra Modeller or Sumatra Paint while having Layout running. When I do so, Sumatra Modeller or Paint clones into the wrong object files.

A: To use Sumatra Modeller or Paint while Layout is open, you should try the following:
1. Inside Modeller, go to "File -> Close all objects" (make shure you have saved your work)
2. Now only load the ground/terrain you want to work on and try again.

Q: Sumatra Paint: When I select less than 20 polygons to paint on, the Painter clones plants exactly on the selected polys. When I select more, less plants than polygons are created. Why is that?

A: The Painter is for creating single plants. However, If you select more than 20 polys, the Painter uses the same routine to create objects as Sumatra Modeller, which depends on object offset and a random factor.

Q: Sumatra Modeller/Painter runs slow.

A: To increase working speed you should only have one viewport open and set to wireframe. When working with high polygon count, try creating only parts of your vegetation and saving it to several files.

Q: I tried creating many objects using a high offset value on a small area, but it didn´t work out.

A: Please consider the following mathematic example: in an area 10x10 meters you can theoretically create a maximum of 9 objects with 5 meter offset, if you place the objects on the corners, edge middle and the middle itself. As the Sumatra Plugins create objects on random positions, this maximum hardly can be reached. Try decreasing your offset value.
